HOW DO I file?

Why filing won't impact your benefits

You will not lose any of your benefits if the amount of income you report on your taxes is the same as what you report to benefits.

Refunds and Benefits

Any refund you receive from filing taxes will not be considered income when determining whether you are eligible for, or how much you can receive from, the below benefit programs:

  • Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) also called food stamps
  • Medicaid and Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
  • Low-income housing

Some benefit programs may have rules about asset limits and how long you can keep money in your bank account before spending it.
